Good news! Our art prints and postcards are available!

Now you can have your favorite atrtwork of Julia Surba on a postcard or like an art print. Postcards are two side printed and art prints are made on tibetan hand made kahari-paper* and on cyperus papyrus*kahari paper is traditionally made from plant Canabis sativa, which grows high in Himalayan mountains. The paper is hand made and has a beautiful texture. Each piece of paper is unique, and the artprints look like hand painted on it.Cyperus papyrus** also called Papyrus Sedge or Paper Reed is traditionally made from plant Cyperaceae, which grows in the wetter parts of Africa. Papyrus has a good recognisable texture and looks very impressive. Because of that the artprints looks lifelike on it.All these stuff and much more is available in our new online shop, called KUZHEBAR STORE. You are welcome!

Fujara - Slovak overtone flute played by Nadishana

mp3 (5MB)

This unique flute made in collaboration with Max Brumberg, overtone flute player and builder. We met at Maultrommel Fest in Leipzig and decided to exchange our flutes. Max got my kalyuka and I got even 3 wonderful fujaras! On this video i play on C fujara. Besides great tone, tuning, light weight it have one very big privelege if you compare it with wooden one: it's very cheap because it's made from PVC. It costs 5 time's cheaper than wooden fujara. For those musicians who can't afford native fujara from Slovakia this could be an amazing option.

This fujara now available in our webshop and it comes in sets. For very cheap price you get set of C/D or A/G fujaraIf you would like to buy it please write me a message to order.

Exhibition report, ethnological museum, Berlin 2007

Kuzhebar Design studio (Julia Surba) and Sound Microsurgery Department (Vladiswar Nadishana) presented their exhibiton stand with kuzhebarian art and music during Markt der Kontinente in Berlin's ethnological museum these two December weeks. This cultural event brought together people who present or are interested in art and handcrafts from over the world. We were happy to answer a lot of questions about Ancient Kuzhebar, pyrography, music and variety of other objects we presented this time. Visitors of the event brought into focus that all the things we presented are made by ourselves what was a kind of unique on this event.

Kuzhebar shadow theater piece

Traditional Kuzhebar Shadow theater piece devoted to a winter solstice performed by Nadishana and Julia Surba at Maultrommel Festival, Leipzig.

A shadow play is an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment. The performance involves the projection of light or fire on a white screen, on which performers use figures or puppets to produce shadows. It is popular in various cultures, f.e. in Indonesia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Turkey, Persia and Greece. In Ancient Kuzhebar the shadow theatre was usually a part of ritual celebrations such as solstice and moon rituals. Traditionally the shadow play was shown near the fire place inside a big frame drum (Buben, Tungur) and was synchronized with the drummer playing. Here you can see a shadow theater piece devoted to a winter solstice.Music : Vladiswar NadishanaShadow theater: Julia SurbaThe aim of this project is to rebuild and to develope the kuzhebarian tradition of shadow theater.
