Steve Shehan is the legendary multi-instrumentalist, composer, innovator and creator of new approach to world music production. In the beginning of 90's accidentally i got the cassette with his "Arrows" and "Indigo Dreams" albums. I was blown away by his revolutionary method of composition, playing and producing. Those recordings  stuck in my player for ten years and strongly influenced my own way to make music. I was infected by idea of multi-layered studio overdubbing and i started to search, collect and learn to play the instruments from various ethnic traditions of the world. Steve's recordings showed me the endless possibilities of one-man studio production. Self-taught musician, he, in fact, invented his own techniques of playing and recording/editing. The integrity of those two factors creates his unique universe of sound which is instantly recognizable. From the scratch he created the whole amazing world of music which never existed.

In one of interviews in Internet I mentioned Steve as an inspiration. And in unexpected way that gave me the possibility to get in touch with him personally. One day i got an email:

The Futuristic Fujara is made by Max Brumberg. It's made from highly durable PVC and available for the order. There's some great news about it: it's collapsible and comes in sets. It's one part with whistle and joint and two playing tubes in different tuning. For example when you want to use D fujara you connect D tube, when you want to play on C fujara you replace it with C tube. And when you disconnect the part with the holes you have overtone flute! (Check video for details) So in fact you have 3 instruments in one in collapsible variant (much easy to transport)

Also in a mokshan culture exist an interesting tale connected with an egg.Mokshan people say that deep in the forest grows an ancient oak with a magic egg inside, the egg of Kui - Gorozh. Kui - Gorozh is a magic creature, a mixture of a snake and an owl, who can realise all wishes of his owner.To become an owner of Kui - Gorozh one should find the Kui - Gorozh' egg and brood it up.Inspired by this tale Julia Surba created some Kui - Gorozh' eggs (of course with the help of Kuzhebarian Gods!!!).Who know's may be someone of you will be lucky to brood it out?Do you want to try?

2 days ago i visited my friend Ed Powell in Czech, and we played a small concert in Liberec Meditation Center.

Since the video was taken on photo camera and quality is not enough to see the instruments well, i post here the pictures of them:

We're happy to tell that the Sound Microsurgery Department have one more CD out: Vladiswar Nadishana "Innovative Jew's Harp" :)

This CD is dedicated to one of the most amazing musical instruments: jew's harp. You can meet this instrument in ethnic cultures all around the world. Nadishana demonstrates the virtuoso style and opens the hidden possibilities of this little peace of metal. The CD include mostly solo performances recorded live and in studio. Jew's harps from different traditions are featured on this recording: from Altai, China, Vietnam, Netherlands, Laos and India. Nadishana demonstrates also brilliant playing on self-invented sets of Vietnamese and Altaian jew's harps. As an addition there's the track on the related instrument: Ghost Catcher. This is extremely rare mouth bow from Kuzhebar (South Siberia). It has 2 strings and a fingerboard, so it's possible to play melodies on this fingerboard, using your mouth to modulate the sound!
